New Foundation Center held its 21st Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, October 7 at the North Shore Senior Center in Northfield.
Outgoing board member Irvina Warren was honored for her eleven years of service and longstanding commitment to mental health services and supportive housing. In his introduction of Irvina, Advisory board member Neil Adelman recounted their work together on the New Trier Township board and their encounter with Mort Posner- legendary for his determination to see the formation of the agency.
Jim Anderson received this year’s Community Volunteer Award. A trustee of the Peter G. Horton Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT), Jim is a steadfast advocate for New Foundation Center’s supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals. Funds from the Horton CRAT are used to match federal HUD funding – and critical to sustaining the housing and support to our residents with mental illness who were homeless.
The 2009 Member Recognition Award went to Deepak–among his recovery goals was a desire to assist in the redesign of the agency website. Deepak participated in the selection of the new logo, helped design the website and wrote the website program. Check it out at www.newfoundationcenter.org.
Michael gave the evening’s keynote speech. He shared his story of resilience in the face of major depression, lung disease and diabetes. Michael’s 9 years as a Dominick’s employee and 5 years in our housing is evidence of his ability to apply the recovery strategies that he has learned over the years.
New Foundation Center welcomes Sharon Rosen to the board of directors and is glad for the continued service by its re-elected and continuing directors.
